Global warming - Flange leaks

Quaternary is the current running ice age which started 2.6 million years ago.You will be surprised to know this is the fifth ice age. The last ice age "karoo" ended as global average temperature changed around 5 degree Celsius. This brought an enormous climate change. With rapid Industrialisation and improvements in our lifestyle over the last century average temperature has increased by .75 degrees celsius. What is significant is two third of the temperature rise is after 1975. Global warming is melting glaciers and adding more and more water to the sea. The recent cyclones debbie, hurricane harvey, cyclone odhisa are all attributed to global warming. Global warming and solar radiation contribute to moving of earth's plates. This leads to earthquakes and volcanic activity. We as Industrialists or entrepreneurs have a major responsibility towards our fellow citizens and our upcoming generations to come. Flange and Valve wrapping tape system - Biggest Drawback

Flange and Valve wrapping by a tape system is a real bad idea. Why? 1. This tape system needs a lot of preparation time. 2. Installation involves skilled labor from the manufacturer. 3. Once a Flange is sealed Maintenance cannot be done. - Biggest drawback. 4. Cannot be reused. 5. Too much work in form of removing the packing and tape -After a Flange leak 6. High cost associated in terms of preparation, supervision and material . 7. Installation for large number of flanges will take months. Any solution that seals the flange and is not reusable is a failure. We need to understand that flanges joints are subject to failures : 1. Gasket failure - Mechanical deterioration with time, over tightening, temperature and  2. Fastening system failure - Bolting is subject to vibrations, stress and fatigue. 3. Alignment-Improper alignment of both faces of flange often leads to a Flange failure. Solution  Flange spray safety shields are the best soluti

Flange guards - Sealing leaks

“Can we stop fluid leakage by using a flange guard?” This question has come up to us a number of times on our journey. As a Flange guard manufacturer ,”No.” Flange Guards are not used for sealing leaks. Flange guards or safety spray shields are used to contain fluid leaks from spray outs. The whole idea of sealing leaks from Flange shields is very dangerous . They are not designed to seal leaks. When you seal a safety shield it leads to pressure buildup and eventually, the pressure will lead to a blast. Flange leaks are mainly because of gasket failure, alignment problems or loosening of fasteners because of vibrations. A planned preventive maintenance schedule will minimize chances of a flange leakage. Teflon and Stainless steel safety shields are available with discharge nozzle which gives a safe passage to the fluid and can be connected to containers which can store such fluids. The discharge nozzle is required in industries which have high-temperature fuel lines. Any leaka

Clear type flange spray shield

Though a number of flange shields are being used in industries but one shield that has been in demand is the clear type Flange shield. The clear type shield is made of transparent inspection window which makes inspection of the flange easily possible. This also helps in detecting any leak with mere visual inspection. These shields have PTFE coated fiberglass on the both ends which have excellent chemical resistance to any hazardous material. These shields are more popular for valves, union, Bends and T piping joints. Installation of these shields is very easy and no special skills is required. Clear type shields are stitched with Yellow Kevlar rope which has a very high strength. Normal cotton threads sold in the market will not last long in case of a leak. These shields are also dielectric and are uv resistant.  Uv resistance gives the shield enhanced life even in case of exposure to sun light. These shields can withstand pressures of up to 1650 PSI with enhanced thickn

Safety officer - It's Time to check your safety procedures

A safety officer ensures that policies and safety regulations are followed by his co-workers. His primary focus is to ensure safety of manpower at the manufacturing plant and containing incidents happening because of unsafe procedures and negligence. In today’s times companies have started using UAV’s to keep a real time check on safety procedures. The monetary objective is...it reduces the workers compensation by almost one third. The long term objective is improvement in workers morale resulting in better productivity and overall creating a safe environment. A safety officer investigates incidents to prevent recurrence and ensures continuity of production. At times piping accidents have happened because the workers had inadequate knowledge about safety procedures and equipment’s. Safety gears can be divided in  two categories the first being used by the worker himself like protective suits, helmets, glasses, safety shoes, appropriate hand gloves, gas masks and the second

History of Valves

Valves are used in regulating the flow of a fluid. The Roman Empire was unmatchable in early days in controlling and storage of fresh waters. In fact the castellum was the first water Sewerage system in the historic city of Pompeii.  The distribution and regulation of water from the aqueduct through 3 outlets was done by the castellum. Egg shaped Lead Pipe was used in the transportation of water. Unfortunately the  ancient city of Pompeii was buried under the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD . The excavations have led to the finding of bronze valves which were used to pump water uphill to the castellum. With the technological advancement in the modern times our piping system as a whole have improved dramatically. Valves are being used in wide range of industry and are also being governed by different regulations. The various governing standards as per region are ISO,ANSI,EN,BSI,DIN,JSA etc.  These valves handle pressures in excess of 2500 PSI and temperat

Flange Safety - Regulations

When the word “Safety” comes to our mind it brings two different kind of thought process.  First is danger, risk, injuries, accidents and life. The second thought is protection, The word “safe” itself comes from French word “sauf.” History of US piping system goes back to early 13 th century when wooden pipes were used. Water pipe companies in the 16 th century used bored tree trunks for transportation of water. As early as 18 th century gas was transported in wooden pipes and by the late 18 th century it was also being used to ferry oil. Infact oil was stored in wooden tanks.  Cast iron pipes first came to use for water distribution in the city of Philadelphia,United States  in early 18 th century. The obvious reason of using it was it could carry higher water pressure. In June 1927 the first tentative standard for Flange and Pipe fitting came into force and was known as American tentative standard b16e which was later replaced by ASA B16.5 in 1953. Flange safety

Need of the hour- Affordable Safety

Technology is improving by leaps and bounds on an hourly basis. What was impossible yesterday is possible today. We have numerous safety products bringing almost absolute safety to our manpower machines, equipment and environment. Still we are struggling to control incidents and accidents. Incidents that bring enormous damage to our environment and families shattered by injuries and deaths of loved ones..our coworkers by profession. One factor that is very deterrent to the safety industry is high pricing in terms of brand name, in terms of quality, in terms of marketing  and in terms of profiteering . We as a part of the safety industry believe that safety products should be correctly priced. as at times companies avoid safety because they can’t afford it. Quality has always scope for improvement though after certain parameters are met it suffices the minimum need of the industry to which you are serving. By adding glamour to the product in terms of look or feel. You are add

Why Kevlar Is Important In PTFE Flange Guard?

Most of the discoveries in science were unexpected. This one is special as discovered by a woman. Stephanie Kwolek was working on a light weight fiber which could be stronger than steel. In 1965 Kevlar was discovered by kwolek, a fiber which is five times stronger than steel. Kevlar is a form of the plastic popularly known as aramids.  The most common use of Kevlar is Bullet proof vests. Kevlar decomposes at 450 degree Celsius and can withstand embrittlement in low temperatures up to 190 degree Celsius. The most common identification of Kevlar threads is that it comes in yellow colour. Kevlar is chemically stable though it can degrade in high concentration acid and base solutions only after long period of times. All Our PTFE coated fiberglass flange shields are stitched from Kevlar threads. Thus giving the PTFE flange guards the desired level of protection. Most of the PTFE shields in the market are stitched from cotton or nylon threads which can create a

Material Types For Flange Guard

Safety is one of the key requirements for many industries like chemicals and petrochemicals which require the transportation of hazardous chemicals. These can expose the working personnel and the equipment at the plant to considerable risks. Flange guards are safety shields which shield the working personnel and the surrounding equipment at such plants.  This is why their use has been mandatory in the industries of today. However while installing flange guards at your plant you must ensure that they of high strength, easy to install, offer great efficiency and must be of the best material which suits your need. We at   Indana Steel   being one of the leaders in manufacture and supply of different types of flange guards list some of the types of materials which are used for the manufacture guards. Flange guards: the materials used  Teflon You would usually find in the market flange guards which have a teflon coating. This helps the flange guards in increasing its effic

A Demo on Vacuum Flange and Its Different Types

Intro of  Vacuum Flange: Out of the many types of flanges  like  Blind Flanges, weld-Neck flange, Threaded Flange, Socket Weld Flanges, Spectacle Flanges and  Lap-Joint Flanges   which are used, Vacuum flanges are those which are used to connect each other including vacuum chambers, vacuum pumps & tubing at the end of the tube end. The flanges are used not only for scientific applications but also for various types of industrial applications as well.  This is mainly due to the fact that these flanges allow diverse pieces of equipment to interact through a physical connection. The vacuum flanges are also used for vacuum maintenance, monitoring & manipulation from outside the vacuum chamber. You probably might know that there are numerous flange standards which exist. These may be in terms of differences in ultimate pressure, size and ease of attachment. Vacuum Flanges Types  You might already be aware of the fact that the flange is one of the essential parts
