Flange guards - Sealing leaks

“Can we stop fluid leakage by using a flange guard?” This question has come up to us a number of times on our journey. As a Flange guard manufacturer,”No.” Flange Guards are not used for sealing leaks. Flange guards or safety spray shields are used to contain fluid leaks from spray outs. The whole idea of sealing leaks from Flange shields is very dangerous. They are not designed to seal leaks. When you seal a safety shield it leads to pressure buildup and eventually, the pressure will lead to a blast.
Accident due to flange leaks

Flange leaks are mainly because of gasket failure, alignment problems or loosening of fasteners because of vibrations. A planned preventive maintenance schedule will minimize chances of a flange leakage. Teflon and Stainless steel safety shields are available with discharge nozzle which gives a safe passage to the fluid and can be connected to containers which can store such fluids. The discharge nozzle is required in industries which have high-temperature fuel lines.

Any leakage from these flanges may lead to auto-ignition of the fuel because of the temperature. This will lead to catastrophic damage to the plant. Many accidents have happened in industries dealing with hazardous chemicals and petroleum products because of miscommunication during maintenance. Proper maintenance procedures must be followed. Written communication is a must as large number of accidents have happened because of verbal communication.

Maintenance teams are working in shifts and are in constant pressure because of the nature of work. So identification of failures is a must for smooth production. At all times do not remove the identification tag on the Flange guard as shields handle different pressures and may look identical but pressure handling capacity may be different. As flange safety shields are reusable and are guaranteed for performance it is in the best interest to keep identification tags intact. We are a customer-centric company.

What is the most commonly used material for nuts and bolts?

Be it construction or any other major industry the role of nuts and bolts and other types of fasteners are critical. Thus they determine the overall strength and structure of the largest structures.  So in case you happen to have your business in the manufacturing or construction sector we are sure that you would be interested to know what the commonly used materials for nuts and bolts are. So let us understand the different types of materials used. The different types of fastener materials used Fasteners are made with   a wide variety of  of material s . These include everything from common steel to titanium, plastic and other exotic materials. Some of these materials are again separated into different grades. This is done to describe specific alloy mixtures, hardening as well as processes involved.  Apart from this some nuts and bolts are available with a variety of coatings or platings.   This is done to increase the resistance against corrosion or alter the appearan

Properties of HSFG Bolts

Bolts are extensively used as a fastener. They serve various purposes and there may be various types of bolts. We at  Indiana Steel  being in the steel business since long and are involved in the manufacture and supply of various kinds of fasteners includes bolts. Of the various types of bolts which are in use the HSFG bolts are widely used. These are on account of the properties they have. In this blog we will explain to you what they are and their properties and benefits of using them.   HSFG bolts what they are? How they are made? High Strength Friction Grip Bolts are popularly known are HSFG bolts. They are made from bars of medium carbon steel. These bolts have great strength. Their high strength is built through the process of quenching and tempering.  This process is also known as alloying steel. Steel washers of hard steel or carburized steel are provided to evenly distribute the clamping pressure on the bolted member and to prevent the threaded portion of t

Flange and Valve wrapping tape system - Biggest Drawback

Flange and Valve wrapping by a tape system is a real bad idea. Why? 1. This tape system needs a lot of preparation time. 2. Installation involves skilled labor from the manufacturer. 3. Once a Flange is sealed Maintenance cannot be done. - Biggest drawback. 4. Cannot be reused. 5. Too much work in form of removing the packing and tape -After a Flange leak 6. High cost associated in terms of preparation, supervision and material . 7. Installation for large number of flanges will take months. Any solution that seals the flange and is not reusable is a failure. We need to understand that flanges joints are subject to failures : 1. Gasket failure - Mechanical deterioration with time, over tightening, temperature and  2. Fastening system failure - Bolting is subject to vibrations, stress and fatigue. 3. Alignment-Improper alignment of both faces of flange often leads to a Flange failure. Solution  Flange spray safety shields are the best soluti
